SUMMARY:Winging-It Art Show
DESCRIPTION:Winging-It builds on Lisa Lipsett’s decades long fascination with silk moths.  In particular\, the  mesmerizing eye-spotted wings and free fly ribbon-like sky drawing of Cecropia. Their beauty is timeless and wild. Their flight is spontaneous and a potent antidote to feeling pinned down. They lift the spirit. \nLisa Lipsett’s painting style is expressive and nature-based. Fascinated with the within of things\, she paints the energetic signature of life. Excavated layers of unconventionally mixed and matched materials such as oil\, dry pigment\, gold leaf\, graphite and cold wax maximize creative possibilities. Textured wings dusted with warm pink\, vibrant tangerine\, electric purples and cream rise up in bursts and flourishes in her images. Themes include freedom\, harmony\, simple beauty and belonging. \nThough revered for their giant size and the beauty of their eye-spotted wings\, silk moths are also challenged by habitat destruction\, pesticides and over collecting. These night-flying pollinators are an important food source for many creatures\, and can teach us much about the nature of self change. Lipsett’s images aim to spotlight their importance. SUMMARY:Sidney Concert Band: The Music of John Williams and Hans Zimmer
DESCRIPTION:Join the Sidney Concert Band\, for an afternoon of music featuring two of today’s most well-known movie composers… John Williams – Star Wars\, Jaws\, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Hans Zimmer – Pirates of the Caribbean\, The Lion King\, The Dark Knight. You will also be treated to some wonderful musical surprises along the way. \nThe Sidney Concert Band\, your band\, is celebrating its 36th year as an active member of the Saanich Peninsula arts scene. The Band takes pride in providing music for local events\, supporting local organizations and continuing support for School District 63 and 676 Kittyhawk RCACS Band programs. The band has donated well over $10\,000 to these programs over the past few years! Supporting music programs is important to the SCB because young musicians form the foundation of community bands.
