SUMMARY:Rock\, Raffle & Roll for Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Rock\, Raffle & Roll for Healthcare! You can win this autographed Fender American Professional II Stratocaster guitar! \nBig names from the Los Angeles music industry lend their names to help raise funds for the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. Iconic musicians\, guitarists Danny Kortchmar\, Waddy Wachtel and Steve Postell\, drummer Russ Kunkel\, and bassist Leland Sklar have played for Hall-of-Fame artists (James Taylor\, Keith Richards\, Jackson Browne\, Linda Ronstadt\, Carole King\, Stevie Nicks and Crosby\, Stills\, Nash & Young) and now make up the “supergroup”\, The Immediate Family. They have autographed this guitar to raffle off and raise funds for the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation (SPHHF). \nFunds raised from the Rock\, Raffle & Roll for Healthcare raffle will be used to help purchase much needed equipment for Saanich Peninsula Hospital’s Emergency Department\, Operating Room and throughout the hospital. The proceeds will help to provide care teams at the hospital with the most up to date equipment and technological advancements\, ensuring the highest levels of care and best possible outcomes for everyone on the peninsula and surrounding area. \nRaising funds with the autographed Fender guitar was the brainchild of local businessman\, musician and long-time SPHHF supporter\, David Bremner. David and his wife\, Kim\, befriended drummer\, Russ Kunkel and his wife\, Shauna\, while dining in Sidney\, BC. A friendship ensued. In November 2022\, David and Kim visited Russ and Shauna in Los Angeles and while there purchased the guitar with the thought to donate it to the Foundation. \nThis is a fundraising opportunity unlike anything the Foundation has ever had. We appreciate your help in spreading the word\, and hope many will be inspired to purchase tickets to support a good cause\, be connected to the music world\, and have a chance to win this Fender guitar & case valued at $2593.06. The Foundation is thankful to have these rock legends impact our small community in such a big way. \nThe sale of raffle tickets starts on August 2\, 2023 and can be purchased through the SPHHF website www.sphf.ca until 4:30 pm on October 11\, 2023. \nTickets are $25 each or 5 tickets for $100. The draw will be held on Wednesday\, October 11th at 4:45 pm and one lucky winner will take home this beautiful signed Fender guitar. \nFor more information\, please call 250-656-2948\, or email Brenda.moroz-pettyjohn@sphf.ca

SUMMARY:Buffy Sainte-Marie
DESCRIPTION:Buffy Sainte-Marie is recognized and celebrated as one of the most important and impactful Indigenous artist of all time. Over the course of her six-decade career\, Buffy has inspired multiple generations of musicians\, artists and activists. The powerful\, raw singer/songwriter with unmatched scope has steadfastly refused to be trapped in the patterns of the past or be entangled in the workings of the contemporary music industry. Since her groundbreaking debut album It’s My Way!(1964)\, the Cree singer-songwriter has been an informative advocate for Indigenous cultural awareness. \nHer appearances on “Sesame Street” enriched public-access television with important subjects such as breast feeding\, sibling rivalry\, and Native American language and culture. When she agreed to take an acting role in the TV series\, The Virginian\, it was conditional that Indigenous roles be filled by Indigenous actors. \nIn addition to winning countless Canadian JUNO Awards and being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame\, she helped to found the Juno Awards category Music of Aboriginal Canada. Buffy was the first Indigenous person to take home an Academy Award as co-writer of “Up Where We Belong” in 1983 for Best Original Song from the film An Officer and a Gentleman\, which also won Golden Globe and BAFTA honours. She has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and received Hollywood’s Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.
