SUMMARY:Fair Trade Rug Event
DESCRIPTION:Bunyaad fair trade rugs are back in town! \nCome and explore over 300 rugs (from 2×3- 9×12) and dozens of pillows! \nIf you ever had the opportunity to browse a Ten Thousand Villages store in B.C. you will likely remember their gorgeous heirloom quality one-of-a-kind rugs. Sadly since the majority of the Ten Thousand Villages stores have closed\, Bunyaad has not had a home for their rugs on the Island. \nHansell & Halkett Vintage Home Decor is honoured to partner with Bunyaad to bring the rugs back to Sidney. The Fair Trade Rug Event will take place June 14-23 at the Sidney Pier Hotel and will feature over 200 hand-knotted rugs\, from intricate florals to hand-spun wool natural dye tribals\, from 2’x3’s to 9’x12’s\, along with dozens of pillows and mug rugs (coasters). \nAll of the rugs are made with consistently high- quality materials and dyeing techniques. The rugs are made using locally sourced wool\, cotton and silk\, By the time a rug is designed\, knotted\, sheared\, washed\, stretched\, and finished it will have passed through the hands of approximately 15 rug experts to make sure it can withstand anything life throws at it. \nBunyaad was founded in Pakistan in the 1960s with a mission to provide a fair and vital income to Pakistani rug makers who otherwise would have very few sustainable outlets for their craft and artistry. Today Bunyaad works with over 850 families throughout 100 villages in Pakistan. Unlike many contemporary rug companies\, Bunyaad supports their artisans to make their own artistic and technical decisions. They believe in the inherent value of the rug making tradition and in the value of art for art sake. As a result\, no two rugs are the same. \nSo mark your calendars\, because even if you’re not in the market for a hand knotted rug\, these are worth seeing just to admire the unbelievable craftmanship that it takes to create these masterpieces. They are all truly works of art. Bunyaad director and son of the founder\, Yousaf Chaman will also be on hand to answer any questions you might have.
