DESCRIPTION:Musuem hours: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm daily \nWhat happens when personal freedoms come into conflict with national security? \n\n\n\n\nExploring the suspension of civil liberties in Canada during the First World War\, the Second World War\, and the 1970 October Crisis\, Lost Liberties — The War Measures Act sheds new light on the enduring impact of the Act on Canada and its people. \nThis Canadian Museum of History exhibition examines the internment of Canadians of Ukrainian origin and other nationalities during the First World War\, the internment of Italian Canadians and the internment and forced relocation of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War\, and the arrest of hundreds of people in Quebec during the 1970 October Crisis. \nLost Liberties probes the crises that drove these tragic events\, and features poignant first-hand accounts from the men\, women and children who lived through them.

Lantern Procession at 8:30 pm \nThe Salish Sea Lantern Festival is a celebration of art\, light\, community and culture. Enjoy live performances and activities that engage all ages\, followed by a procession of community members and event participants carrying beautiful\, hand-made lanterns along a parade route with large-scale lantern installations. \nBefore the evening of the Festival\, join a lantern-building workshop or watch an online lantern tutorial to create your very own hand-made lanterns. \nBring your lanterns to the festival and join the Lantern Parade! \nWorkshops and kits are available for registration and purchase starting on the 17th of August. \nFree online lantern workshops are available on the ArtSea Gallery Website so everyone can participate! \nJellyfish lantern kits are also available at local retailers (August 17th – $10)  \n\nIsland Blue\, Sidney\, BC\nBuddies Toys\, Sidney\, BC\nThe Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea Store\, Sidney BC\nPanorama Recreation Centre\n\nAdult Fish Lantern workshop (August 20th & 21st 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm @ St. Andrew Anglican Church) includes: \nIn-person instruction for a two-part workshop (2.5 hours each day) leads you through building a complete fish lantern. \nMaterials to build the fish lantern are included in the workshop registration fee ($50.00).
