DESCRIPTION:Health in Space: Daring to Explore is developed by the Canada Aviation and Space Museum\, part of Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation\, in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency. \nThe exhibit also features exclusive video interviews with Canadian astronauts\, including a special section dedicated to astronaut David Saint-Jacques’ recent mission. It will cover everything from his selection and rigorous training to the groundbreaking experiments he conducted while aboard the International Space Station (ISS). \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Show Times: 10am – 4pm\, daily September 5-11 \nParticipants: Christina Morrison \nThe 5th Annual West Coast Tug Project Show at the ArtSea Gallery located in Tulista Park at 9565 Fifth St\, Sidney\, BC. \nIt is artist Christina Morrison’s goal to paint all of the Tug Boats on the West Coast of BC. Over 575 on her list so far! We live on an Island\, Tug Boats are essential to our existence and she wants this project to be a part of our Maritime History. \nChristina will be on-site painting every day over the 1 week period. This project is a collaboration of many marine photographers who have given permission for the use of their photos as reference for Christina to create these paintings as these are work boats and she wanted to be able to paint them working.

SUMMARY:Live Chat with Scientists @ Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a live video call at sea\, with scientists and engineers onboard the CanPac Valour as they explore the seafloor off BC’s coast! Part of the NorthEast Pacific Deep-sea Exploration Project (NEPDEP)\, this expedition will be mapping the seafloor with an echosounder and using a remotely operated vehicle called Mantis to record real-time footage of the seafloor\, including at underwater mountains near Haida Gwaii and in the new Tang.ɢ̲wan · ḥačxʷiqak · Tsig̱is Marine Protected Area off the west coast of Vancouver Island. These areas are hotspots for marine biodiversity\, with nurseries of eggs\, glass sponge reefs\, seafloor venting\, and new species being discovered all the time. \nThis expedition is a collaboration between Fisheries and Oceans Canada\, Council of the Haida Nation\, Nuu-Chah-Nulth Tribal Council\, Royal BC Museum\, University of Victoria\, and Ocean Networks Canada. \nIn this live event\, you are invited to ask questions directly to those at sea. You will learn about marine life\, why the ecosystems are important\, the sophisticated technology they’re using\, and what life onboard the vessel is like. You can also follow NEPDEP and watch their livestreams of the underwater footage on Facebook or nepdep.com. \nThis event will take place in our Centre’s Ocean’s Heartbeat space.\nFree with admission or membership.
