DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, December 7th @ 1pm- 3pm \nWhat can hands-on crafting teach us about fiction and poetry? Join us for a pop-up exhibit of books and related crafted objects to find out! \nChat with students from UVic’s English 482 class about what their crafting projects reveal about literature\, from classics like Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse\, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince\, and Isaac Asimov’s I\, Robot to recent bestsellers like Han Kang’s The Vegetarian. Students will display and share with you the results of their crafting adventures in block printing\, decollage\, paper quilling\, rag rugging\, embroidery\, hand weaving\, cross-stitch\, and handpress printing. \nYou can also try your hand at knotted rag rugging\, a craft activity that requires no special equipment beyond ripped rags. We’ll supply the rags (torn-up\, clean old bedsheets) and teach you this easy\, relaxing craft activity! Professor Mary Elizabeth Leighton and MA student Kalea Furmanek-Raposo will lead this informal workshop. Everyone is welcome!
