SUMMARY:Aaron Pritchett
DESCRIPTION:A staple in the Canadian country music scene for nearly 25 years\, Aaron Pritchett’s legacy continues to be unstoppable.  His authentic desire to connect with his fans\, whether it be onstage\, via his digital platforms\, in person or through his music\, has sustained and grown a robust\, loyal fanbase for decades.  Artistically\, Aaron continues to adapt\, and evolve\, while refusing to abandon the down home sincerity in his music that has been his trademark since his career inception. Pritchett has charted anthems like his #1 single ‘Better When I Do\,’ ‘Dirt Road In ‘Em\,’ ‘Let’s Get Rowdy\,’ ‘Hold My Beer\,’ and has also appealed to the softer side with powerful hits like “Done You Wrong\,” and his top 5 smash – “When A Momma’s Boy Meets A Daddy’s Girl.” A multiple GOLD-Certified recording artist\, with CCMA Awards and JUNO nominations to his credit\, Pritchett also holds a record for most BCCMA Award wins.

SUMMARY:Virtual Gardening Series: Gardening Under Cover
DESCRIPTION:Gardening under cover is an important strategy for maintaining our food gardens in a changing climate by mitigating extremes in all gardening zones. Protecting ornamentals (especially those\, like berries and trees\, that are edible) cannot be ignored either\, for they feed the pollinators and protect the birds and small wildlife\, and help maintain a healthy landscape. \nIn this seminar we’ll explore how to judge the parts of the landscape that will benefit most\, how to use a variety of covers and weather mitigators\, how to use or modify existing structures\, and what materials to use. We’ll forucs on simple\, cost-effective\, recycled & DIY materials\, and strategies as well as discussing a few more elaborate systems. Hands out will be provided for registered participants\, and a Q&A will follow. \nThis is a FREE course that will take place virtually on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Sam George & Jill Goldberg - The Fire Still Burns
DESCRIPTION:Learning with Syeyutsus Speaker Series \nThe crimes carried out at St. Paul’s Indian Residential School in North Vancouver scarred untold numbers of Indigenous children and families across generations. Sam George was one of these children. Sam’s story follows his childhood growing up on the Eslhá7an (Mission) reserve to St. Paul’s\, where he weathered physical\, emotional\, and sexual abuse. Sam spent much of his life navigating the effects of this trauma – prison\, addiction\, and challenging relationships – until he found the strength to face his past. Now an Elder and educator with the Indian Residential School Survivors Society\, Sam shares his harrowing story\, in his own words. An ember of Sam’s spirit always burned within him\, and even in the darkest of places he retained his humour and dignity.

SUMMARY:Film Friday: John Ware Reclaimed
DESCRIPTION:We are exited to share screening of new\, relevant\, thought-provoking documentary films from the National Film Board with our community. \nJohn Ware Reclaimed  by Cheryl Foggo  2020 | 73 min | English \nIs it possible to love someone who dies before you were born? Cheryl Foggo believes so. John Ware Reclaimed follows filmmaker Foggo on her quest to uncover the complex story of John Ware\, a Black cowboy and rancher who settled in Alberta prior to the turn of the 20th century. As she endeavors to dig past the racist myths and mistellings surrounding Ware\, she recalls her childhood in Calgary\, Alberta\, her own experiences of racism\, and her family’s history as part of the 1910 migration to western Canada to escape violence in the southern United States. She also evokes the suppressed history of thriving Black presence in the Parries: the Black pioneers who lived\, worked\, and raised families in the west

SUMMARY:Carole Blackburn - Reconciliation & Treaty Relationships
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Carole Blackburn’s talk will explore the legal\, political and cultural consequences of treaty making in Canada. While the recent report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Indian Residential Schools identifies the treaty relationship as key to meaningful reconciliation\, First Nations treaty signatories have very different ideas about how and why a treaty can reconcile their relationship with Canada than do the federal and provincial governments. For most Indigenous people treaties are a sacred covenant and that should create relationships of mutual respect and obligations between treaty partners. This is only possible\, however\, when they are implemented beyond a limited\, contractual understanding of rights obligations.
