The harsh conditions of this quarantine station was where 49 primarily Asian men suffering from the diseases lived. Island of Shadows: D’Arcy Island Leper Colony\, 1891-1924 is a documentary that examines the factors contributing to its creation and to the inhumane treatment those that were forced to live there.
