SUMMARY:An Evening with Paula Cole and Special Guest with Miko Marks
DESCRIPTION:Paula Cole is an American singer-songwriter who first gained attention with her triple-Grammy nominated album “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?”. In 1998\, Cole won the Best New Artist Grammy for her single “I Don’t Want to Wait”\, which was used as the theme song on the television show Dawson’s Creek. Her most recent release titled “American Quilt” was released in May 2021. Besides recording and performing\, Cole has also served on the faculty at Berklee College of Music since 2013. \nPaula Cole has released seven solo albums of original songs. Cole has performed with icons in many genres of music\, from Peter Gabriel to Dolly Parton\, Herbie Hancock to Emmylou Harris\, and Amy Lee of Evanescence to Burt Bacharach. Cole’s emotionally deep performances and her poetic\, intelligent writing makes her stand out from the masses of contemporary music. Her compositions have been covered by a diverse range of artists—including Hancock\, Annie Lennox\, Katherine McPhee\, and JoJo—and she has sold approximately 3 million albums. As the first woman in history to solely produce and receive the Best Producer Grammy nomination for her album This Fire\, Cole has broken boundaries with a searcher’s spirit. From her top 10 hits of the 1990s to her more recent\, critically acclaimed albums\, Cole continues to write\, produce\, record\, and perform heartfelt\, meaningful\, lasting music that defies categorization.

SUMMARY:Writer Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Find out what a few local writers are up to!   Writers for this Showcase will read from recent works or talk about their publishing experience\, with audience questions to follow.   This event is drop-in. \nGeoff Strong \nGeoff is an atmospheric/climate scientist by profession who now devotes much of his time to providing public education on climate change.  His novels focus on an environmentally conscious family and include Convenient Mistruths (2017) and Inconvenient Pipeline (2020). Geoff will read from a work in progress\, a book of short stories connecting the two previous novels. \nRichard (Dick) Vission \n“I became a novelist as a teenager in a seminar with Saul Bellow\, but when I quit school to write the great American novel\, I discovered I lacked imagination. It took me many years of living to compensate for this lack\, but eventually I acquired enough experience to write six novels.” The Foundations of Kindness\, mainly written in 1975-6\, completed between 2014 and 2018\, and published in 2020\, is a tale of love\, politics\, murder and assassination in Sixties Chicago told from the vantage point of the mountains of British Columbia in the Seventies.  Dick will share inspiration and read from his book. \nAl Onia \nAl Onia\, a retired geophysicist\, writes stories that celebrate the transformation of the individual\, against a speculative background\, into one who risks their existence to make a difference in the world. Al’s short fiction has appeared in numerous print and online magazines and anthologies\, most recently in The Astronaut Always Rings Twice\, Tyche books.  He is a two-time Aurora Award nominee in the short story category.  Al’s eighth published novel\, Shadowed Passage\, launched in March 2022.  Al will speak about his recent self-publishing experience with Draft2Digital.
