SUMMARY:Arbutus Singers Supporting Eagle Heights Africa in BC Society
DESCRIPTION:Arbutus Singers Supporting\nEagle Heights Africa in BC Society\nSunday\, April 23 – 2:00pm \nEagle Heights Africa in BC Society was conceived in 2008 through discussions between Kenyan born\, Dr. Njoki Ndiba\, and founding members\, Bill and Joan German of Vancouver Island. Njoki’s dream following her doctoral degree in the US was to return to her native Kenya to form a Non-Governmental Organization\, to assist disadvantaged children in obtaining an education in Kenya. In 2010\, Eagle Heights Africa in BC Society became a registered charity (#80139 3653 RR001) issuing tax receipts for all donations and sponsorships. \nWe are so grateful for the fundraising support of the Arbutus Singers who are supporting the Society’s vision: to provide support and financial assistance for Kenyan youth to enable them to have educational opportunities in Kenya. The Arbutus Singers Concert will be held at the Mary Winspear Centre on Sunday\, April 23\, 2023 at 2:00 pm. \nThe educational costs for each student surpass the actual costs each year so we depend upon your support by becoming a sponsor for a student; making donations; or\, sharing with others such as friends\, family\, organizations\, corporations\, or foundations who may be interested in contributing through this voluntarily operated\, not-for-profit Canadian Charitable Society. Society Directors volunteer their time and administrative costs were below 2% of the Society’s 2022 budget. \nArbutus Singers 25th Anniversary Choir Concert\nThe Arbutus Singers is an inspired\, disciplined 60-member Victoria-based choir founded by Jack Boomer and accompanied for more than 20 years by Robyn McKinnon. Enjoy choral music that includes selections from Phantom of the Opera to Dear Evan Hansen and Jesus Christ Superstar and the Greatest Showman. \nA group of 15 singers came together\, with Jack\, in the summer of 1998 to discuss starting a new choral group. The group formed and came up with the Arbutus Singers name because they were practicing at the Queen Alexandra Centre\, where Arbutus trees abound. \nThe choir is unique in that there is no board of directors\, and never formally established itself as a non-profit organization. The goal is that the choir members pay their way and\, for those who cannot afford it but want to join\, there is always extra room to ensure all who want to participate can do so. Each year the coffers run dry and then the year’s finances start over again. Fees from the choir go to pay for our gifted accompanist\, practice space\, insurance\, and of course\, music. The Arbutus Singers have sung for a number of groups to assist with their fundraising efforts – among them Eagle Heights Africa\, an incredible worthwhile endeavour to educate young people in Africa. The choir is proud to note that they have raised about $500\,000 for various charities in the Capital Region. Go to www.arbutussingers.com for more information about the choir.
