An ideal paddling location\, the Gulf Islands are one of the most beautiful and accessible archipelagos in the world. Distances are short\, the scenery is varied\, and\, despite the close proximity\, civilization seems worlds away. Add the chance to see whales\, bald eagles\, seals\, sea lions\, and otters\, and you have the makings for a grand wildlife outing\, all within a reasonable distance from your launch site. \nSeveral of the Islands\, including Sidney Island\, are accessible daily. Our general route is travelling North towards Portland Island for a nice Picnic before coming back. DESCRIPTION:Mary Winspear Centre Presents\nAn Acoustic Evening with Doc Walker\nThursday\, September 12 – 7:30 PM \nBack at the start of the 1990s\, a country band from the town of Westbourne\, Manitoba appeared on the scene. It was fronted by singer/guitarist Chris Thorsteinson and began building a reputation the traditional “weddings\, parties\, anything” way. In 1994\, Thorsteinson recruited his childhood friend\, singer/guitarist Dave Wasyliw\, and the pair quickly established a formidable songwriting partnership that now after nearly three decades has resulted in a Juno Award\, 14 Canadian Country Music Association Awards\, 21 Top 10 Canadian country radio singles\, eight #1 CMT videos and millions of streams. \nThe band has also performed in every province and territory in Canada\, and shared stages with everyone from Bon Jovi to Eric Church. They have had several Top 10 songs on the charts. Hits include “Beautiful Life”\, “From Here”\, and “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me”. Other great songs are “That Train”\, “North Dakota Boy”\, “Rocket Girl”\, “Driving With the Breaks On”\, “Coming Home”\, and “Whoever Made Those Rules”.

The Nova Scotia songwriter’s eclectic body of work reveals a restless and playful spirit\, always transforming and expanding. \nWhile continuing to celebrate — and be celebrated for — his regional ties and embrace of East Coast musical traditions\, Joel’s omnivorous appetite for new sonic horizons is an integral part of his work. His discography includes heavy riff epics\, like Thrush Hermit’s now-classic swansong Clayton Park (1999); low-fi and wide eyed solo records like In Need of Medical Attention (1999) and La De Da (2005); lean\, loose and lyrical rock and roll with the Emergency on Down at the Khyber (2001) and Truthfully\, Truthfully (2003); and a father-and-son nod to English folk traditions with Solidarity (2017). Then there are the endeavours that push the envelope further: the Emergency’s romantic epic concept album Ashtray Rock (2007).
