Sidney Tourism Strategy Plan

Over the past year, the Sidney Hotel Group, comprising all Sidney hotel partners, has actively pursued the implementation of the MRDT and approached the Sidney BIA to oversee and manage this initiative. With oversight and input from the Sidney Hotel Group, the Sidney BIA Board of Directors has voted in favour of taking on this responsibility.

The Sidney Hotel Group and Sidney BIA engaged a consultant to develop a comprehensive MRDT application, including the attached Five-Year Strategic Tourism Plan Summary (2025–2030). Highlights of the plan include:

  • Increasing year-round visitation, particularly during the shoulder seasons (October–May).
  • Driving direct accommodation bookings through targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborating with local stakeholders to amplify Sidney’s brand and tourism offerings.
  • Securing sustainable funding for enhanced tourism marketing, visitor services, and destination development.

With MRDT (aka hotel tax) funding, the Sidney BIA will work to raise awareness of Sidney as an overnight destination and specifically increase visitation in the shoulder seasons (October to May), through the development, implementation, and evaluation of marketing, promotion, and other communication and collaborative efforts.
