Speaker Night: Kate Fisher @ BC Aviation Museum

April 22 @ April 22 - April 22
$5

Atlin lies in the far northwestern corner of BC and took centre stage in 1989 during the province’s last major gold rush, aprt of the famed Klondike Gold Rush. Reaching Atlin in those early years was an arduous task. By 1930, aviation began to play a crucial role in connecting this isolated community to the outside world. Aircraft became essential for transporting people and supplies in and out of the region. Among them was BCAM;s own Eastman Sea Rover — one of the five resident of Atlin, Kate Fisher will explore Atlin’s early aviation history, highlighting the vital role aircraft played in shaping the community. Her talk will include the dramatic search for “Paddy” Burke and his lost Junkers F-13, an event that became, at the time, the largest air search in Canadian history.
