The Adventurer’s Weekend in Sidney

A weekend of adventure in Sidney could mean anything from a sunset sailboat cruise, whale watching excursion, or even an all-day guided kayaking tour through the Gulf Islands. It could also mean an adventure of the palate, where you get to explore the culinary delights Sidney is so famous for. Whatever your fancy, your weekend adventure getaway starts right here.

Your stay might include a variety of activities; or, you could tailor your visit around a particular theme. True thrill seekers can jump from a plane, explore underwater wrecks, or set off to explore the water by watercraft. Choose a guided overnight kayaking adventure, or rent a sailboat and head out into the Gulf Islands to explore local coves and marinas on your own.

There’s whale watching, too. Sidney Whale Watching hosts sightseeing tours that depart from the Sidney Pier, and you can customize your tour according to your wishes. Enjoy a photography tour, or even a Gulf Islands cruise with stops on nearby Salt Spring, Pender, or Saturna Islands to sample local wines, cheeses, spirits and beers.

Campers can enjoy SMONEĆTEN (McDonald) Campground, located right in Sidney just off the highway near Swartz Bay. Tucked away in 20 hectares of woods, you won’t even guess you’re just five minutes from downtown! You can set off by kayak, boat, or the Sidney Spit ferry to the walk-in campground located on the north end of Sidney Island.

Cyclists can set off along the Saanich Peninsula Flavour Trail, following your appetite to local growers, wineries, honey farms, country bistros and breweries along the way. Since you’re here for the weekend, there’s plenty of time to stop for leisurely meals along the way!
