Salish Sea Lantern Festival

Experience an evening of art, light, culture, and community at the Salish Sea Lantern Festival, one of Sidney’s most enchanting annual events. Presented by the ArtSea Community Arts Council, the festival brings together residents and visitors for a celebration of creativity inspired by the natural beauty and marine life of the Salish Sea.

The festivities begin at Beacon Park with live music, performances, interactive activities, face painting, lantern displays, and opportunities to view or create handcrafted lanterns. Throughout the preceding Week of Lanterns, visitors can explore lantern installations throughout the community, participate in workshops, and discover the artistry behind this unique tradition.

As dusk settles, the highlight of the evening begins: a magical lantern procession along Sidney’s waterfront. Participants carrying illuminated lanterns create a glowing parade of light, colour, and imagination as they travel together through the community. The procession celebrates connection, creativity, and the shared experience of gathering by the sea.

Families, artists, visitors, and community members of all ages are invited to take part. Whether you create your own lantern, purchase a lantern kit from a local retailer, or simply enjoy the spectacle, the Salish Sea Lantern Festival offers a memorable way to experience Sidney’s vibrant arts and culture scene.

The festival concludes with illuminated lantern displays throughout the waterfront area, creating a magical atmosphere that captures the spirit of community and creativity at the heart of the event.
